Phaseolus vulgaris
You really have to see this bean to believe it. Huge yields of huge beans with a flavour that is larger than life. Nor'easter is sweet, buttery, nutty and refreshingly juicy. This is a meticulously selected bean bred for farms of the Northeast. The highly productive plants produce pods that get up to 8" to 10" and remain succulent even as they begin to develop seed. Harvest often to keep production going and you will be rewarded with a heavy elongated harvest. Pole beans yield much more than their bush counterparts and companion well with many other crops. Pair with Golden Gate and Gigante Violetto for great mixed displays at market or in the homestead kitchen.
Growing Instructions:
Direct sow after last chance of frost.
Seed spacing: 4” to 6” apart
Row spacing: 4’ apart
Provide at least 5’ trellis.
Beans fix their own nitrogen so fertilizer should not be too rich or there will be too much foliage at the expense of pods. A well-balanced, well-cured compost and a sprinkle of wood-ash should be adequate. Make sure soil pH is between 5.8 and 7.0.
One planting will last all season.
Harvest Instructions:
Harvest when pods are purple in color, about 7-8 inches long, and before beans develop in pods. Beans should be tender and not fibrous for the best fresh eating and cooking experience.
